D’une Afrique dont les analystes de tout bord décrètent l’exception et l’apanage dans les domaines générateurs des principaux fléaux que sont famine, analphabétisme, détournements de deniers publics, agressions diverses et permanentes des Droits de l’Homme…, la violence politique peut-elle compter parmi ces caractéristiques spécifiquement africaines ? L’expérience togolaise peut-elle permettre de proposer une réponse exhaustive à cette cruciale question ?La présente réflexion montre comment, loin de constituer une tare africaine, la violence s’est-elle impliquée dans l’édification des différents chapitres de l’histoire de l’humanité, de la plus haute Antiquité aux arcades des milieux politiques contemporains, d’un bout à l’autre du continent et du monde. Elle explore les différentes circonstances à travers lesquelles la violence a émaillé la construction des nombreuses hégémonies qui jalonnent l’histoire universelle, des lointains Grecs et Romains anciens aux plus sanguinaires de nos dictateurs tropicaux.

Abstract:

From one Africa of which all kind of analysts determine the exception and the exclusiveness in the fields generating the main40scourges such as starvation, illiteracy, embezzlement of public funds, various and permanent Human Rights offenses…, can political violence be counted as such, amongst all these specifically African characteristics mentioned earlier ? Is it possible to see in the Togolese experience, an opportunity to propose an exhaustive answer to that crucial question?Far from being considered as an African weakness, the present analysis shows how violence involved itself in the building of various chapters of the history of mankind, from oldest Antiquity to the channels of contemporary political surroundings, from one side of the continent and the word to the other. It explores the different circumstances through which violence deteriorated the construction of numerous hegemonies that mark universal history, from the ancient Greeks and Romans to the most bloodthirsty of our tropical dictators.
