LE VIVRIER DANS LA POLITIQUE COLONIALE AGRICOLE EN COTE D’IVOIRE : 1908-1960

Résumé

Durant la période allant de 1908 à 1929, l’acquisition du vivrier par le pouvoir colonial obéissait à une logique prédatrice : impôt de capitation en nature et livraisons obligatoires des produits vivriers.
Cette situation changea après la crise des années 30. L’administration initia un programme d’intensification de la production agricole et pastorale. Le programme agricole élaboré à cet effet, était axé autour de plusieurs points. Mais, il mit l’accent sur les cultures d’exportation.
Quelques interventions réalisées au niveau du vivrier furent en faveur du riz pluvial et du maïs. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale et jusqu’en 1960, la production agricole vivrière enregistra une augmentation. Cela fut réalisé grâce à l’urbanisation accélérée dans les principaux centres urbains de la Basse-Côte et à l’abolition du travail forcé en 1946. En effet, les hommes libérés du travail forcé prirent conscience de la valeur marchande que représentaient les cultures vivrières.

Abstract : During the period from 1908 to 1929, the acquisition of food by the colonial power followed a predatory logic poll tax in kind and compulsory deliveries of food products.
