LA DIASPORA MARCHANDE DES JULA EN AFRIQUE DE L’OUEST. CONNECTEURS D’ESPACES, PASSEURS DE CIVILISATION

Résumé

 Dans un article publié en 1982, sous le titre Les Manding dans
l’histoire, Yves Person, spécialiste reconnu de l’histoire des
civilisations malinké faisait remarquer que l’Afrique de demain ne pourra se comprendre sans le facteur jula qui totalise trois mille ans de présence sur la scène ouest-africaine. Plus de trente ans après ce pronostic de l’historien français, une réflexion sur la distribution spatiale des communautés en Afrique de l’ouest doit pour être plausible s’adosser à un arrière-plan historique de longue durée, en termes de migrations politiques et commerciales. C’est le but de la présente proposition de communication consacrée à l’histoire de la diaspora marchande des Jula en Afrique de l’Ouest. Ce qui est visé ici, c’est de comprendre comment l’expansion commerciale initiale des Jula a noué la trame de la constitution, de l’une des grandes diasporas ouest-africaines qui a essaimé dans l’espace ouest-africain
dès le XIVe siècle au moins sous la bannière de l’islam et des
pratiques commerciales de longue distance.

Abstract : In an article published in 1982 under the title The
